Profile
Radio is a lifestyle not a job. In February 2008, I arrived alone in Bristol to pursue my dream of working in the UK. I moved across and ocean for this type of opportunity.
I've been a reporter all my life. As a child, I'd interview people in the queue and report my findings to my almost always embarrassed mother! It's not surprising I developed a passion for radio later in life.
I applied to the two year Radio and Television Diploma program at NAIT in 1994. The competition to get into this program is stiff. More than 300 people apply for ten openings. I became one of the fortunate ten to take the course in Edmonton, Alberta ,Canada.
In 1997, I landed my first radio job presenting at a station in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. After a year, I then moved to take a presenting job in Fort McMurray and Medicine Hat, Alberta Canada.
Throughout my radio career, I found myself “trading hats”…from news to promotions to sales, to on-air. To combine all of my industry experience, I decided to continue my education at Lethbridge College.
I became the only person to ever complete a two-year Advertising and Public Relations Diploma in only one-year. The focus of this program is newspaper writing and media relations. I was able to grasp a more comprehensive view of the media industry.
Next, I joined the team at EZ Rock 104.9 FM in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in May 2001. I was hired as a presenter/community relations representative for EZ Rock. My key responsibilities were relationship building and doing live reports and broadcasts.
In May 2003, I moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to work for 96.9 JACK-FM to cover all the events in the city. Then in August 2003, I was hired away as a presenter with The Peak 107.3 in Calgary.
In 2005, I enrolled in the Broadcast News program at SAIT in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This included two years of hands-on experience writing and reading radio bulletins, cutting clips, and doing live reports. TV reporting, production and anchoring is also core to this program.
I developed skills of sourcing and developing story ideas. You never know where an idea might come from. Often, I go out for one story I come back with two or three other stories to cover.
Completion of a one-month full-TV reporting practical at CHAT 6/3 TV in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada was mandatory. I covered all types of stories....politics...sport...community events, etc.
Every position I have undertaken has required a love of people, the ability to multi-task, flexibility, quick thinking, and organization. I'd enjoy utilizing my talents with your organization.
